PHOTOS BY MANNY HERNANDEZ
Canyon Ranch Miami Beach hosted top supporters of The Blacks’ Annual Gala at a star studded pre-event celebration on April 4. Award-winning reggae artist Flex, American pop singer Ana Cristina, Saxophonist Alto Reed, Latina actress and Grammy nominated singer Maria Conchita Alonso, novela superstar Lucia Mendez, and DJ Mark Leventhal performed for 400 of Miami’s most influential philanthropists at an outdoor cocktail reception in Canyon Ranch’s breezy Palm Courts. Keeping with Canyon Ranch’s healthy living philosophy, guests sipped organic champagne and spirits and enjoyed the hotel’s world-renown cuisine including selections of ceviche, antipasto and miniature desserts.
Notable guests included Lea and Roy Black; WSG Owners and Canyon Ranch Miami Beach Developers Eric Sheppard and Phil Wolman; socialite's Peter and Kelly Gold, Tommy and Theresa Turchin, South Beach pioneers Tony Goldman and wife Janet Goldman; Joey Goldman and sister Jessica Goldman-Shrebnick; Haute Living's Kamal Hotchandani, Billy Cypress from the Miccosukee Tribe; Designer/Author Chris Ciccone; Fashion Designer Rene Ruiz; Dan and Merle Weiss; Alan Lieberman; Niche Media's Jason Binn; Fabian and Marita Basabe; novela actor Paolo Quevedo; NFL Player Brandon Ayanbadejo; Former Miss Universe Lupita Jones and The Stars of Univision’s Nuestra Belleza Latina.
"The Power of Hope", hosted by Lea and Roy Black is a crucial annual charity gala that benefits Bay Point Schools, an alternative boarding school that provides educational, vocational and therapeutic services to teenage boys whose behavior has led them into anti-social or criminal activity. Based on a program that teaches responsibility, accountability and respect for social norms, the results have been outstanding. Over 90% of Bay Point graduates have never committed another crime, and the Juvenile Justice Accountability Board has rated Bay Point Schools the best program of its kind in the state of Florida. This school and program would not continue to function without the generosity of the supporters and sponsors that contribute to this event.
The The Power of Hope Gala will be held on April 18th at the Eden Roc hotel and includes performances by Lil Wayne, Patti LaBelle, Heather McDonald, Jencarlos Canela and DJ Irie. Special auctioneer for the night will be Pamela Anderson. For additional information please visit www.theblacksannualgala.org or www.baypointschools.com.
