Magic City Memoirs...A big hit at the Miami Film Festival

Magic City Memoirs premiered last night at the Miami Film Festival at the Gusman Theater. Executive Producer and Academy Award nominated actor Andy Garcia along with filmakers, director Aaron J. Salgado and producer Jaydee Freixas, were awarded the Lexus Pursuit of Perfection award at this year's festival.

Also walking the red carpet included Andy Garcia's daughter Dominik Garcia-Lorido, Julio Mechoso (Bad Boys, Jurassic Park III), Nestor Serrano (24), Jordi Villasuso (The Lost City, All My Children), among others.

The celebration continued with the after party for 300 invitees at Villa 221. Sponsors included Bacardi, Versailles, Normans 180, and Asia de Cuba.

Demi Moore arrived with Ashton Kutcher at the Regal Theater on Lincoln Rd. to present her movie STREAK, at Miami International Film Festival Shorts Competition. Not in attendance was Natalie Portman who also has a Short in the competition titled EVE.

MIFF '09 COVERAGE: Andy Garcia Tribute To Cachao at the Gusman Theater

Andy Garcia arrived at the Miami International Film Festival at the Gusman Theater for the screening of his documentary Cachao: Uno Mas.

Garcia produced this documentary about his musical idol and inspiration Cachao, filmed at Bimbo's 365 Club in San Francisco on March 5th, 2005. Known as Cuba's Beethoven and creator of the Mambo, Cachao, passed away last year, but his music lives on with the help of Garcia.

In the last 15 years, the Ocean's Eleven star has made it a lifelong mission to showcase Cachao in the legendary status he's deserved. Throughout this span, Garcia collaborated with Cachao in various concert performances, documentaries, and music, which won various Grammy awards.

Throughout 2009 the documentary will be featured in film festivals around the world before it makes its TV premiere on the PBS network in the Spring of 2010.

MIFF '09 COVERAGE: Willem Dafoe at the Colony Theater

Actor Wellem Dafoe (Spiderman, Platoon), Abel Ferrara and MIFF's Tiziani Finzi arrived at the Colony Theater on Miami Beach for the screening of Ferrara's 2007 Go Go Tales. Last night's screening is part of the Miami International Film Festival Career Achievement Tribute to Filmmaker Abel Ferrara.

MIFF 08 Coverage: Kate Hudson makes her directing debut

Kate Hudson walking on Lincoln Rd on her way to the Colony Theater for the premiere of her short movie Cutlass, her directing debut. Kate will be in town for a few days since her dear friend Owen Wilson is setting up in Miami for the next 2 months while filming Marley & Me.

Demi Moore, (No Ashton) came in to town promote her latest movie Flawless at the 25th annual Miami International Film Festival at a press conference at the Royal Palm hotel on Miami Beach. Despite her sniffles, she enjoyed her bottles of Fiji water and answered questions from the media. Flawless is premiering here at this year's festival, although it already went to #1 in Spain. Star studded Miami Film Festival to celebrate Silver anniversary

Miami International Film Festival(MIFF) announced today its 25th anniversary edition program to take place February 28 through March 9th.
Patricia Riggen's Mexican film Under the Same Moon will open the festival. A total of 163 Films, 121 Features, 42 Shorts. 10 World Premeires, 46 North American and U.S. Premieres.
Celebrities expected at this year's festival include: Collin Firth, Juliette Binoche, Kate del Castillo, Carlos Santana, Gloria and Emilio Estefan, Fito Paez, Alfred Molina, David Schrimmer, Kate Beckensale, Heather Graham, Demi Moore, Harvey Keitel and many more to be announced.

"Our growth is a testament to MDC's and the City of Miami's commitment to the arts and to film as an industry," said Festival Director Patrick de Bokay.

This year's poster was created by artist and MDC alumni, Cesar Santos.
