IN MEMORY: Cuban Singer Olga Guillot Queen of the Bolero 1922-2010

Longtime Miamian and Cuban music legend, Olga Guillot passed away today from heart complications at Mount Sinai on Miami Beach. She was 87 years old.

Better known as the 'Queen of the Bolero', Olga was seen recently at the Gloria Estefan-led Ladies in White march through Miami's Calle Ocho, a street that bears Olga's name as well.

Fans began to leave flowers at her Miami Walk of Fame star in front of El Pub restaurant in Little Havana.

In case you didn't know: she was the first Latin artist to sing at New York's famed Carnegie Hall, a Latin Grammy winner; sang with Sarah Vaughan, Edith Piaf and Nat King Cole; Recorded 14 records that went gold and 10 platinum; Was in more than 20 movies, almost always acting as herself; Was also a great friend of Celia Cruz, which she often referred as "My Sister"; has one daughter Olga Maria Touzet-Guillot, from Rene Touzet, a renowned composer in Cuba.

Services for Olga Guillot will be Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at 5 PM to 11 PM at St. Michael's Catholic Church. MAPNOW
